"A work of understated atmospheric beauty" - Q

It gives me great pleasure to write a little plug for Kim’s new record, Thorn In My Heart, out on Lojinx today here in Europe.
Not only is she a great singer and musician (she would laugh but I think she’s the best rhythm guitarist on the planet), she’s also an inspiration when it comes to try and convey a feeling or capture the essence of what makes a great song. She’s always reading, watching great films or on her way to a museum or somewhere else, gathering inspiration and information to spark off the next song. That’s how I see her anyway and I’d like to be more like that.
We met through producer Giles Martin when I played bass on her album ‘Chinese Boxes’ back in 2007. For the new album Kim’s recorded the song ‘I Will Wait’ which we co-wrote one foggy spring morning (or was it autumn?) a while back here in North London, you see we like our foggy mornings here in N6 and spooky songs grow from fog.
I hope you’ll pop over to Lojinx or Itunes or wherever the album cover link will take you and spin and buy Kim’s new record, Thorn In My Heart.
Enjoy!

Big congrats to Steve Lamacq over at BBC 6Music for his 20 years with The Beeb this week. I had the pleasure to work with him when we did the (in)famous Punk Rock Karaoke stint at The Garage a few years back, you’ll remember if you were there, maybe you won’t.. Anyway, here’s the little chat we had when I chose my Good Day/Bad Day track on 6Music 19th November 2010.

This week I’ve been back home (1975-1996 home) in North Sealand, north of Copenhagen, Denmark, freezing my butt off. Luckily I also spent a few days in the capital amongst jumping Penguins, roaming Polar Bears and shopping plush Danes. Back in December Kim Richey demanded me to track down the wonderful and very talented Danish artist/singer/multi wizard Hannah Schneider and try write a few hits. Not sure we’ll repeat the Say Say Say or Ebony And Ivory chart stats but we did finish a cracking beautiful song by late lunch. Hannah will decide whether it’s gonna be called ‘All This Talk’ or ‘Letters And Words’ or something third. If you’re not familiar with her work please do check these links.

I’m off to catch a seal.

See ya!

Kim Richey & Henrik (at Diversion Studio, London Bridge, 2/1 - 2013)
Started 2013 the best way possible, hung out with dear friends Kim Richey, Jez Ashurst and Lojinx legends Andrew and Amy, to record acoustic versions of a few songs from Kim’s coming album, out later this year. We finished with ‘I Will Wait’ which ‘plug plug’ is a song Kim and I wrote together when she lived in North London a wee while back. It’s a cool little spooky number and I feel very privileged to have strummed the (three!) chords that inspired Kim to write the song. Oui.

This Wednesday 19th gone I had the pleasure of playing at Lavish Habit in Balham, London. The night was organised by my friend and fellow artist Jamie Lawson and we managed to squeeze about £100 from the audience for the Shelter charity.

Jamie kicked of the night with his song All Is Beauty and did another three songs incl. his Irish No 1 hit Wasn’t Expecting That. I played Stars And Time and Must Be Going of my forthcoming record, the Danish salme Det Kimer Nu (Grundtvig/Balle) and was joined by Jez Ashurst for an acoustic rendition of new Farrah song One In A Million.

Next, newcomer Ellie Rose, a very talented young girl with cool songs and quirky lyrics. Watch out for her. Jez did a brilliant set that incl. two classic Farrah songs, As Soon As I Get Over You and Swings And Roundabouts. Finished with a hilarious version of East17’s Christmas hit Stay Another Day and literally had everyone in stitches and singing their hearts out. Jamie brought the night to a close with a heartfelt rendition of the classic Christmas song Fairytale Of New York.

Thanks to Jamie and the guys at Lavish Habit. Support your local independent shops and music.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2013!

It’s been roughly a week since the UNICEF gig, ‘En God Dag For En God Sag’, back in Helsingoer, Denmark and news is that the four concerts at Kulturvaerftet in total have raised about 150.000 DKK, that’s about £16.000. Needless to say that makes everyone involved very proud. And it was also an honour to play on the heels of my friend Morten Remar and with help from Danish legend Jens Runge on guitar and Swedish wizard Daniel Fält on piano. We did ‘This Time’ and new song ‘Must Be Going’. Thanks again to everyone for coming out. (Photo by Susanne Hasmann)
